The festival is dedicated to the presiding deity of the temple Vishwanatha Swamy or Lord Vishnu. Lord Siva and Goddess Vishalakshi are the main deities of the temple, and they are taken out in these chariots. A week-long Carnatic music festival is also organised along with this.

Thirunakkara Arattu
The Thirunakkara Arattu Utsavam lasts for a period of 10 days and ends with the ceremonial bathing of Mahadeva known as Arattu. During the time of noon, a series of nine beautifully adorned and embellished elephants are ushered along with Lord Mahadeva for the rite of bathing.
