Onam or Thiruvonam is an auspicious harvest festival celebrated every year in Kerala. It is a 10-day festival celebrated to commemorate the return of King Mahabali/Maveli to his State. Each day of Onam has a great significance and is observed with great fervor and enthusiasm.
Pulikali
The origin of pulikali dates back to over 200 years, The Maharaja of Kochi Rama Varma ‘Sakthan thampuran’ introduced this folk dance to celebrate Onam with a dance that reflects wild. Early morning the body of the performers is being waxed to put the paints and they start painting the tiger face on their body.
Kalpathi Ratholsavam
The festival is dedicated to the presiding deity of the temple Vishwanatha Swamy or Lord Vishnu. Lord Siva and Goddess Vishalakshi are the main deities of the temple, and they are taken out in these chariots. A week-long Carnatic music festival is also organised along with this.
Eid ul Fitr
Eid al-Fitr is a celebration which marks the end of Ramadan. Muslims will not only celebrate the end of fasting, but will also thank Allah for the help and strength they were given throughout Ramadan.
